*****
We only had one destination in Kunming: the Stone Forest. It's about an hour out of the city, and again, pretty easy to get to. The Stone Forest is like a huge park full of karst rock formations. We spent nearly five hours walking around it, most of the time not seeing anyone, or just a handful of people. On the way out we walked through a more touristy area, with a lot of little ponds and rocks with poetic names, and realised that this was where all the people who were there with tours were hanging out. We had actually enquired at our hotel's travel desk about a tour to the Forest, but we were told that we'd have to stay with it the whole time, which would have sucked.
The Stone Forest was amazing. The rocks were very impressive, and it was a lot of good hiking, too. There were also about a million spiders there, I've never seen so many of them in one place (until we got to Shuhe, that is, but that was a few days later) :-) We also saw the tiniest hummingbird ever. I initially thought it was a large bumble bee, because its wings were buzzing, and it was going from flower to flower, but it was actually a hummingbird.
Kunming as a city was not very interesting. We spent some time trying to get train tickets at a long-closed railway station, and buying a new backpack for Jon - his one died on one of the flights we took within China. It was lucky that there were three outdoors stores on the street our hotel was on, while we hadn't seen any before, apart from the one in Beijing that was so hard to find.

Niesamowite, niesamowite, niesamowite! A, umieściłaś dwa razy to samo zdjęcie Jona. Mama
ReplyDeleteA, faktycznie, dwa razy to samo. Już poprawiłam, dzięki.
DeletePaskudne pająki!!
ReplyDeleteA nie zrobiliście zdjęcia koliberka? :D
No przecież jest :-) (hummingbird to koliber) Tyle że nie udało nam się go namówić do pozowania bez ruchu, więc wyszedł jako zamazana kropka :-)
